The Polaris ATV lineup is so extensive that it can be tough to find the one that works best for your situation. A recent YouTube video from the company attempts to shed some light on the subject with a comparison between its Sportsman 570 and Sportsman XP 1000 S, so let’s take a closer look at what makes them tick.
The first thing to get out of the way is the price. Polaris’ 570 is an entry-level ATV with straightforward features and a friendly $7,999 starting price. The hardcore XP 1000 S is more than twice that price, at $17,799 to start. If that’s not enough of an indication that we’re talking about two different animals, their engine size and output numbers should clear things up.
Polaris quotes 44 hp from the 570′s 567cc engine, while the XP 1000 S’ 952cc mill makes a healthy 89 hp. Both have rubber-belt continuously variable transmissions. The 570 is 7 inches narrower than the XP 1000 S, at 48 inches compared to 55. Polaris said the smaller unit fits between the wheel wells of a full-size truck, and it should be easier to load two onto a trailer.
Elsewhere, the more expensive XP 1000 S brings a host of upgrades over the 570. It bumps the 570′s 11.5-inch ground clearance to 14.5 inches and offers three drive modes: Work, Standard, and Performance.
If you couldn’t guess from the price and performance numbers, the 570 is aimed at newer riders and people looking for a utility ATV, while the XP 1000 S slots in much higher in the lineup for more experienced riders. They’re both capable machines, though, so pick the one that fits your budget and needs and get to riding.
