The MG 4 will no longer be offered with nationwide drive-away pricing in Australia, but the popular electric hatchback’s list price is now between $2000 and $4000 less expensive than before.

UPDATE, 2/8/2024: MG Australia has now updated its website to include drive-away pricing for the MG 4, which has been included below. Our original story continues otherwise unchanged.

From August 1, the MG 4 has lost its Australia-wide drive-away pricing, which started from $39,990 for the entry-level Excite 51 variant and topped out at $59,990 for the XPower.

Instead, the price before on-road costs of the MG 4 has been reduced by $2000 for the Excite 51, Essence 64 and Essence 77, $3000 for the Essence 64, and $4000 for the XPower.

Model Price Price reduction (RRP)
2024 MG 4 Excite 51 $37,990 $2000
2024 MG 4 Excite 64 $41,990 $3000
2024 MG 4 Essence 64 $44,990 $2000
2024 MG 4 Essence 77 $50,990 $2000
2024 MG 4 XPower $55,990 $3000

Prices exclude on-road costs.

The following drive-away prices apply in each state and territory.

The new prices bring the MG 4 closer to the list price of the BYD Dolphin, its similarly-sized rival which starts from $36,890 before on-road costs.

Despite being slightly more expensive, the MG 4 was Australia’s fifth best-selling electric vehicle (EV) in the first half of 2024, registering 2771 registrations compared to the BYD Dolphin’s 1248 sales.

The MG 4 also remains one of Australia’s five cheapest EVs, though the title is now held by the MY23 MG ZS EV Excite – now $34,990 drive-away – which is followed by the GWM Ora and BYD Dolphin.

Also announced today, all new MGs purchased for non-commercial use from August 1 can also benefit from the brand’s new 10-year, 250,000km warranty – the most comprehensive coverage in Australia.

Unlike Mitsubishi’s 10-year warranty – which is a base five-year warranty, with an extra 12 months added for up to five additional years provided servicing is completed on time at a dealer – MG doesn’t provide any additional caveats to its coverage.

MG vehicles used for commercial purposes are only covered for up to seven years or 160,000km, whichever comes first.
