Selangor MB proposes West Coast Expressway be extended to KL International Airport to benefit region

Selangor chief minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has proposed that the West Coast Expressway be extended to to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, reported the Selangor Journal.

The extension of the expressway would benefit the region, including Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan, said the state’s chief minister, who is also Gombak MP.

“In my opinion, it would be beneficial if this extension could reach KLIA as well. Not only would this benefit others, but it would also enhance our entire network, leading to faster transportation, economic growth, and improved development in the region, especially in the integrated development region in South Selangor,” Amirudin said.

First announced in 2014 for Budget 2015, the West Coast Expressway – along with Federal Route 5 (FR5) – spans a combined length of 275.8 km, and is expected to be fully completed by early 2025.

The highway saw the opening of alignments in Bandar Bukit Raja as well as in Hutan Melintang, Lekir and Changkat Chermin in Perak since May 2019, which has increased traffic flow by 60% in 2023. Section 1, the southernmost section of the highway was launched on August 30.
