Top 10 best-selling cars in Malaysia YTD Oct 2024 – 5 Peroduas, 2 Protons, 2 Toyotas and 1 Honda

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has released new vehicle registration data for the month of October 2024 and surprise, surprise – the ride-hailing car of choice, the Perodua Bezza, continues to lead the sales charts with 9,772 units sold. This brings total sales for the year to date to 81,946, and with two months left to go, the entry-level sedan is set to come close to hitting the 100,000 mark all on its own.

Coming in second is the Axia with 8,318 units sold last month (73,185 units YTD), followed by the larger Myvi with 6,965 units sold (59,736 units YTD). In fact, with the Alza MPV and Ativa SUVs continuing to sell well, Perodua holds five of the top six positions, which is a stunning feat.

The single non-Perodua model in the upper half-dozen is the Proton Saga in fourth, with sales far behind its rival at 5,691 units sold; however, its YTD figure of 58,455 units means it’s close to deposing the Myvi. The closest non-national competitor, meanwhile, is the Toyota Vios with 2,775 units sold in October.

Overcoming a slow start to the year (presumably due to the recall in January), the B-segment sedan managed to overhaul its sworn rival, the Honda City, with year-to-date sales reaching 22,905 units compared to the City’s 22,757. This is despite the latter also including sales of the hatchback, whereas the Yaris is considered separate from the Vios in JPJ’s data.

Both cars are outselling the similarly-priced Proton S70, which doesn’t even feature in the top ten, although the national carmaker considers the car to be a segment higher. The sedan was even trounced by the X50 SUV, which just made the cut with October sales of 2,035 units (18,513 units YTD), despite Proton initially predicting the opposite.

Above the X50 sits the sole commercial vehicle and pick-up truck on the list, the Toyota Hilux. Nearly as many people (and businesses) bought the workhorse as they did the City, with 2,028 units sold in October and 19,917 in the year to date.
