We dug around Polaris’ products and found some accessories that you may not have realized you needed for your ATV.

Handlebar-Mounted Adjustable Mirrors

You don’t need to always crane your neck to see what’s behind you. Equip a pair of mirrors.

You don’t need to always crane your neck to see what’s behind you. Equip a pair of mirrors. (Polaris/)

Mirrors on ATVs can be used to make sure the path behind is clear when making a transition to another side of the trail, but mirrors don’t come stock on the Polaris Sportsman aside from the Sportsman Touring XP 1000 Trail. Want to check on a load you’re towing or take a quick peek to make sure your friends are still following behind you? A pair of mirrors can help. These mount to the handlebars and can be adjusted to provide the best visibility. The mirrors can be equipped on nearly every Sportsman from the rec-ute, touring, sport, and special-edition lines.

Pod Bag

We appreciate a pod headlight for the directional illumination it provides, but the space between the handlebars can be made even more useful with a pod bag. The 2-liter pod bag from Polaris is easily mounted onto the pod with HD Velcro and it gives the user a convenient place to store personal belongings on their Sportsman. We’re all for having the essentials close at hand.

7-inch Passenger Foot Risers

These risers are for 2008–2009 Sportsman Touring 500s and 800s as well as the 2010 Sportsman Touring 500 HO.

These risers are for 2008–2009 Sportsman Touring 500s and 800s as well as the 2010 Sportsman Touring 500 HO. (Polaris/)

It’s not safe to have the passenger’s legs dangling around on either side of the seat while the ATV’s in motion. Risers like these give riders with shorter legs a higher platform to rest their feet. The nonslip surface is 7 inches higher than the stock passenger footrests and makes it easier for the second rider to brace themselves.

Rear Cargo Rack

This rear cargo rack is a new product from Polaris and will be useful to riders who like to load up their ATVs.

This rear cargo rack is a new product from Polaris and will be useful to riders who like to load up their ATVs. (Polaris/)

Racks can carry an impressive amount of weight, but more surface area may be needed to help support and stabilize loads. This rear cargo rack from Polaris is an extension for the rear rack, increasing the rack size by a claimed 33 percent. Cutouts interspersed across the rack multiply the tie-down points. There aren’t many steps needed to install it and it works with 2021–2023 Sportsman 450/570 models and the 2023 Scrambler XP 1000 S.

Hand Warmers

Don’t let the cold limit riding time.

Don’t let the cold limit riding time. (Polaris/)

When you get a taste of hand warmers you’ll never want to go back to the days of thawing out your hand-cicles after a ride. These hand warmers provide consistent coziness for when the mercury takes a dip. All wiring is included, and they work with a wide range of rigs from a 2007 Sportsman 700 EFI to the latest 2023 Scrambler XP 1000.

Throttle/Thumb Warmers

Got a thumb that’s numb from the cold? Little did you know there’s not only hand warmers, but a thumb warmer too.

Got a thumb that’s numb from the cold? Little did you know there’s not only hand warmers, but a thumb warmer too. (Polaris/)

While we’re on the topic of warmth, there’s one important appendage that doesn’t need to be left out in the cold: your throttle thumb. Polaris’ throttle/thumb warmer radiates warmth straight to your opposable digit so you can control the speed of your quad in comfort during the cold months. You get all the necessary wiring with your purchase. Pair the thumb warmer with the hand warmers listed above for ultimate toastiness.

7.5-inch Gas Cap With Gauge

A helpful accessory like this will help you keep tabs on your ATV’s fuel level while out on the trail.

A helpful accessory like this will help you keep tabs on your ATV’s fuel level while out on the trail. (Polaris/)

OK, I know this product may be a little dated since gauges, dashes, and high-end TFT displays exist, but many riders own older ATVs that are still going strong. These well-loved ATVs don’t have the bells and whistles that modern ATVs have (like a fuel gauge, for example) but that’s why products like this gas cap/gauge exist. If you landed yourself a used 2005–2010 Polaris Scrambler 500 4×4 and want to be informed of its fuel level while you’re clocking the miles, you’ll want to twist this inexpensive gas cap onto your fuel tank.
