Adam Yates won the fifth stage of the Tour de Suisse with a virtuoso mountains performance that saw him cross the line solo after turning up the heat in the final two kilometres.
It saw him extend his GC lead to 35 seconds.
In what was a great day for Yates’s UAE Team Emirates, his team-mate Joāo Almeida finished second, despite having dragged Yates up the majority of the 10km finishing climb.
Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) came in third at 16sec, following a concerted but short-lived attempt to match Yates’s attack.
Beginning in Ambri, the 148.6km stage was bookended by different approaches to the Alpine resort of Carì, with an about-turn in the far south of the course.
