Forming part of the JAC brand’s launch product line-up in Malaysia is the JAC T9 double-cab pick-up truck, which is one of two variants previewd ahead of market launch in Malaysia, the other being the battery-electric JAC T9 EV pick-up truck.
At an introductory price of under RM120,000 for the first 300 bookings made before December 31, 2024, JAC is targeting the Ford Ranger Wildtrak segment of the market with high levels of specification, including equipment and advanced driver assistance systems with the T9 that comes to the Malaysian market fully imported (CBU) from China in a sole Grand ES variant, though plans are afoot for local assembly in Malaysia.
As is pick-up convention, the JAC T9 is of a ladder-frame construction, and this double-cab measures 5,330 mm long, 1,965 mm wide and 1,920 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm. Suspension for the T9 is by double-wishbones at the front axle, and a multi-link leaf spring configuration at the rear. The T9 also comes to the pick-up truck segment using electric power steering, which is used by the Ford Ranger as well as the top-spec Athlete variant of the recently-launched third-generation Mitsubishi Triton in Malaysia.
The sole variant of the diesel-powered JAC T9 gets LED headlamps and DRLs, LED combination tail lamps, front and rear fog lamps, front and rear parking sensors, roof rails, a sports bar, and off-road side step rails. Inside, interior equipment for the T9 includes a seven-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while smartphones can be recharged wirelessly.
For the driver, controls include an electronic transmission selector and electric parking brake (EPB), while the steering column adjusts for height only. Added convenience for visibility comes courtesy of a 360-degree view camera suite, including the reverse camera.
Both driver and front passenger seats get four-way power adjustment and heating, with leather upholstery (offered in black or brown) covering the seats, steering wheel and selected interior sections. Hardware connectivity in the T9 cabin includes USB-A ports (18W) and USB-C ports (60W), as well as a 220-volt (150W) multi-type power socket.
